Steffanie Lorig

A large part of my joy is to nurture curiosity—rather than judgement—in my art studio.

For me, the creative process is like improv—a celebration of random synchronicities that play to the imagination. My many layers of paint both conceal and reveal, creating what someone once called a “visual poem” that is both simple and complex, innocent and sophisticated.

A creative director and graphic designer by training, Steffanie is also a painter, writer, hiker, and gardener. For her, creativity is a mixture of personal expression, mess-making, and imaginative editing. Inspired by artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, she finds that her method of painting (build/destroy/repeat) leads her into a flow state of total absorption where time has no meaning and the world has no limits.

Her artwork has been referred to as visual poetry unconstrained by predictability. She almost always has paint on her somewhere.
