Mimi Miller Miles

My figures are made by assembling pieces together that I have thrown on the wheel and then altered. I have found that wheel thrown forms translate into anatomical shapes easily due to the volume created and the complying nature of clay. Also the lines left behind by my fingerprints as I have thrown these shapes accentuate the form.

In these sculptures I have used the meridian line of the body as the focal point, curving and bending it to create movement. As in ancient Greek statuary, I have narrowed the hips and broadened the shoulders so as give the female form a more powerful male like quality.
