Lisa Sweo Eul

Lisa has lived in the Puget Sound area for the majority of her life and now resides with her husband in Gig Harbor, WA where her studio is about 100 feet from her house.

The sum of her collective experiences are reflected in her paintings. Dual degrees in Economics and Political Science led her to an extensive career in the investment industry where she traveled globally. During her leisure time, she dedicated countless days to hiking, paddle boarding and skiing. Her most cherished sight was gazing upward into the trees. This profound connection with nature inspired her to create encaustic paintings rooted in its beauty.

Lisa employs a variety of materials to build the layers within her encaustic paintings. She melts a blend of beeswax and resin, known as encaustic medium, on a heated palette, then applies it to a wooden panel. Afterward, she reheats the surface to meld the paint into a smooth, enamel-like finish. Lisa elevates each layer by incorporating techniques such as painting, printing or indenting the warm wax with leaves and branches, and incorporating oil paint. With each layer, she imbues her work with depth and intricate detail.

Lisa’s work was most recently featured on the cover of Gig Harbor Living Local in the March/April 2023 issue.
